United States of ALEC, Moyers & Company - September 28, 2012

"Finally: ALEC, meet ALICE. That’s right, ALEC now has some competition. Inspired by professor Joel Rogers, the Wisconsin champion of open democracy, ALICE is a transparent, non-corporate, out-in-the-open, web-based library of model laws on a range of public interest issues. Alice doesn’t have corporate or billionaire backers. The work is done by volunteers -- so in the constant struggle for democracy is still David versus Goliath. But as you’ll remember from that ancient story, giants don’t always win."

Hello, DKos. You’ve Met ALEC, But Have You Met ALICE? - Daily Kos, December 1, 2012

ALICE: A Progressive Counterpoint to ALEC, Judith Davidoff - Isthmus, October 11, 2012

"ALICE is the very essence of the Wisconsin idea: ‘To use whatever brains and research are available to suggest things that will improve the general welfare.’"

Georgia Leaders Depend on the Same Well for Ideas, Walter C. Jones Rome News-Tribune, October 6, 2012

First there was ALEC, now there’s progressive focused ALICE, Mary Spicuzza and Clay Barbour Wisconsin State Journal, September 29th 2012

"…while ALEC has some 2,000 members, holds conferences and has corporate financial backing, ALICE sees itself as a smaller, less well-funded part of a group of organizations that could one day get progressive ideas the same exposure as ALEC manages to do with conservative ideas."

The Antidote to ALEC: ALICE, Aaron Keating Washington Policy Watch, September 19 2012

" Unlike ALEC, ALICE is no corporate-funded juggernaut – and doesn’t aspire to be one. It’s on open and transparent resource for all who are interested in what’s best about progressive policy."

Counter ALEC with ALICE, Jim Hightower - August 10, 2012

"This secretive corporate front is behind hundreds of regressive and repressive bills that're being pushed through Republican-controlled state legislatures. Its bills and tactics are so venomous that 35 of ALEC's brand-name corporate funders – from Amazon to Walmart – have withdrawn their names and money this year."

ALEC, Meet ALICE, ACS Blog Guest Post - June 8, 2012

Building a Progressive Counterforce to ALEC, Katrina vanden Heuvel The Nation blog post, April 11 2012

" In recent months, the need to build progressive strength in cities, towns, counties and states across the country has become crystal clear. Conservative coordination across state lines has led to assaults on workers rights, voting rights and women’s rights, and only an energetic, well-coordinated progressive response has prevented far more extensive damage to our democracy."

"ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council), for nearly 40 years the best kept open secret of the American Right, has certainly been in the news lately..."

Deepening the progressive bench, Katrina vanden Heuvel – Washington Post – April 10, 2012

“On the policy front, the centerpiece of the effort is an initiative called the American Legislative and Issue Campaign Exchange (ALICE), started by Center on Wisconsin Strategy director Joel Rogers. ALICE would offer model laws for both state and local legislators and support citizen-directed efforts like ballot initiatives, all based on the values of equity, sustainability and responsible government.”

Lobbyists, Guns and Money, Paul Krugman - March 25, 2012

"What is ALEC? Despite claims that it’s nonpartisan, it’s very much a movement-conservative organization, funded by the usual suspects: the Kochs, Exxon Mobil, and so on. Unlike other such groups, however, it doesn’t just influence laws, it literally writes them, supplying fully drafted bills to state legislators."

The Big Money Behind State Laws, NYTimes Op-Ed - February 12, 2012

"It is no coincidence that so many state legislatures have spent the last year taking the same destructive actions: making it harder for minorities and other groups that support Democrats to vote, obstructing health care reform, weakening environmental regulations and breaking the spines of public- and private-sector unions. All of these efforts are being backed — in some cases, orchestrated — by a little-known conservative organization financed by millions of corporate dollars. The American Legislative Exchange Council..."
